What is live-in care?

Live in care means a trained carer stays in your home and supports you through the day and night. You keep your own bed, your routines, your garden and your neighbours. There is no need to move into a care home.

Your carer helps with the parts of the day that have become harder, such as washing, dressing, meals, medication and moving around safely. Just as important, they are company. A chat over breakfast, a walk to the shops, or simply knowing someone is there at night.

For many families, live in care is what lets a loved one stay at home when visits are no longer enough.

Who is live-in care for?

Live in care may suit you or a loved one if you:

Need help at different times through the day and night, not just at set visit times

Are living with dementia and feel more settled with familiar surroundings and familiar faces

Are returning home from hospital and need support to settle back in

Feel lonely, or family live too far away to visit often

Are unsteady on your feet or worried about falls

Want to stay at home but need more help than visits can give

Our live-in care services

We offer three types of care under our live in care service. We will help you choose the right one at your free assessment.

24 hour live in care

A carer lives in your home full time and sleeps there at night. They support you through the day and are close by overnight if something unexpected happens. Your care comes from a small team of two or three dedicated carers who take turns living in, so you see familiar faces and you know who is coming.

Waking night care

A carer stays awake all night to give active, hands on support. This suits people who need help several times a night, such as turning, regular toileting, or reassurance when they wake confused or distressed. Available across Greater Nottingham.

Sleeping night care

A carer sleeps in a room in your home for at least eight hours and can be woken occasionally, usually no more than twice a night, for things like a bathroom trip or a minor worry. If you need help more often than this, we will talk to you about waking night care instead. Available across Greater Nottingham.

Which is right for you?
